NICOLÁS CORREA SERVICE retrofits another milling machine built three decades ago

Second hand CORREA A16 milling machine

In its mission to lengthen the service life of the CORREA milling machines through retrofitting work, NC Service has fully retrofitted another milling machine built at the end of the eighties, using 21st century technologies.

On this occasion, it was another small-size fixed bed milling machine, the CORREA A16, manufactured in 1989, featuring great robustness and rigidity, designed for the machining of small parts. Amongst other features, it has an X axis travel of 1,800 mm, and 800 mm on the Z and Y axes, as well as a manual milling head with a hydraulic tool clamp.

At the end of 2017, a Portuguese customer enquired about this second-hand milling machine and the possibility of fully retrofitting it, including the replacement of its original, technologically obsolete FAGOR 8020 numerical control with a state-of-the-art HEIDENHAIN TNC-320. The customer in question is JMJ MECÂNICA DE PRECISÂO, LDA., a company dedicated to precision machining, specialising in conventional and CNC turning and milling. It machines individual and series parts, with different types of materials, for customers in the automotive, electronics and ceramics sectors, among others.

The purchase of this CORREA A16 prior to the commencement of its overhauling by NC Service, allowed this customer to decide on a new HEIDENHAIN control and even to select the final colour for the milling machine paintwork. The highlight of this retrofitting process was this replacement of the numerical control together with the complete remodelling of the electrical panel, including the installation of new switchgear. This electronic retrofitting process was accompanied by the mechanical reconstruction process normally performed by our technicians. Given the fact that this milling machine originally had no protection system, a new protective guard was also installed, custom-made by SAFEMIR SYSTEMS S.L., a company that works together with NC Service to make protection systems of this type.

This was not the first case in which NC Service has completely retrofitted a milling machine that has become technologically obsolete yet still maintains all its robustness and original mechanical properties that are characteristic of a CORREA milling machine. There are now few short-travel milling machines on the market. Therefore, the option to update these CORREA milling machine models such as the A10 or A16 has become an extremely valid solution for the machining of small parts, offering the same quality and precision for which the CORREA brand is noted.

With the purchase of this fully retrofitted CORREA A16 milling machine, JMJ MECÂNICA DE PRECISÂO, LDA. shows its commitment to ongoing investment in technological equipment to increase its productivity and profitability, always seeking quality, seriousness and precision in order to meet the growing demands of its customers.
